Many Korean foods are focused on their medicinal properties, such as digestive health or energy restoration (combined with great flavor). Bopsong focuses on dishes that otherwise are only passed down through generations, cultivating an environment that accepts all, making it easy to learn about the culture without intimidation. Through this project I was able to create all the branding and collateral design for a restaurant.

Bopsong came from detailed research about the culture of Korean cuisine. With the intention of the restaurant being a place that both Korean food first timers and Korean food enjoyers can both enjoy a meal, the name had to be easy to pronounce while still having ties to the Korean language.

For the collateral aspect, creating options for takeout was important to me, as ordering in is becoming the new norm. It was also important to use recyclable materials. Paper packaging is a large part of Korean packaging, and the neutral tones of the brown paper bag and wooden chopsticks flow with the color scheme.

Social media posts were a fun aspect of the brand identity to design, as it was another way to integrate the educational aspect of the brand. I created six instagram posts, each one with two slides so the designs are visually appealing while still providing information as you swipe. It was important to me that the patterns going between slides were aligned perfectly for a seamless transition. The colors rotate from red to tan in a checker pattern when looking at the feed as a whole.

Overall, this project created new challenges that I had not before experienced and I learned a lot. Not only was it a new experience to create a full brand identity from start to finish, but I had never had a full semester long project before. Learning to manage my own time and design accordingly is preparing me for the transition into a career, as this is a common part of the graphic design job. I also took on the opportunity to integrate my Korean background into a restaurant. Creating Bopsong’s brand identity over the course of the semester taught me countless technical and personal skills that I can now apply to my future design work.
