Music provides enjoyment and mental stimulation for listeners, but did you know studies have shown that music lyrics and images may have a significant impact on how youth think, feel, and behave? A substantial deep dive into the relationship of music to its visuals persuaded me to create an interactive experience (via website) through an album. I chose ELO’s “A New World Record” because the music is highly visual, the lyrics are inspiring, and the album is just really good. Enjoy taking a walk down nostalgia avenue, or get ready to experience their greatness!

UI Kit
Creating the foundation for the website was crucial to inform all future design decisions.
This UI Kit was responsive and demonstrates the consistency of branding.
Homepage
I wanted the homepage of the site to transport the user back to the album art of ELO’s “A New World Record”. I implemented graphics from the album cover and reimagined it with my personal design touches. From the homepage, the user can access every song separately or start from the beginning and have the site take them through the album. I also included opportunities to open up the About Page, so the user can learn more about the band before delving into the music.
ELO Through the Years: A TImeline
To bring an element of education to the scope of this project, I created an “about the band” page that expands into a timeline of the history of the band (the history is complicated than you’d think!). The user is prompted to navigate through the timeline at their own pace, and at the end are provided a seamless transition into the music.
A deep dive into the opening track, tightrope
The most challenging and rewarding aspect of this project was to create a webpage that auto navigates through the music’s lyrics, in this case Tightrope. Rather than creating a video in After Effects, I challenged myself to animate in Figma like it would function in the real world. Take a look at the video below for a preview. Enjoy!
